The Cottage - Conversation with Robert P. Jones: "Hidden Roots of White Supremacy"

Yesterday I listened to a presentation made by Dr. Robert P. Jones, president of the Public Religion Research Institute (PRRI). He spoke about his new book, The Hidden Roots of White Supremacy, with Dr. Diana Butler Bass the host of The Cottage.

Bass and Jones talked about history, religion, and politics — and the current conflicts over American identity. For Dr. Jones, we need to understand the issues facing the United States better if we start with 1493, the year of Columbus’ second voyage to North America. He points readers toward a wider — and more honest — vision of history that involves realistic hope for a better future.

America’s Other Constitution: The Northwest Ordinance of 1787– A Birthday Appreciation, by Gleaves Whitney

This is a great article that helps us remember the work that other people have done to build a more just and fair society. On July 13, we celebrated the 236th anniversary of the enactment of the Northwest Ordinance of 1787. A document that has made a difference in how we see ourselves as a country, and how we can become a better people. Enjoy the reading.
