How our journey of faith leads us to places we never intended to go.

It has been a while since I posted anything here. So here I am at it again.

This was a simple conversation with one of my student pastors at the Course of Study Program at Garrett-Evangelical, regarding faith, theology, and where we are today as people of God in a very aloof environment. The conversation highlighted the many areas we do not want to address as people of faith, and how we prefer to put our heads underground rather than to respond to the world. Hope you enjoy it.

Let's Talk Globally: Puerto Rico

This presentation about reality of Puerto Rico's colonial status. The Conference was offered by the President of Garrett-Theological Seminary, Dr. Javier Viera, and PhD Candidate Audri Rivera. The event brought together faculty and students from more than twenty countries across five continents. The global church was present in the room. This presentation is highlighted in the monthly “Let’s Talk Globally,” conversation series.

The historical reality of Puerto Rico challenges us to think differently from a theological and sociological perspective. Puerto Rico continues to be the last expression in the world of direct colonial control by the United States of America. This has implications as to what it means to be a colonized people with its challenges, and what it means to maintain a Puerto Rican national identity and heritage. This is a great, albeit short, lesson on Puerto Rico's history.
